SciFi and Fantasy Art: Prairie Thunder

A young man raises the sacred pipe in reverent salute to his vision...

Ink, colored with Tombow art markers, tweaked a bit in Photoshop. My apologies for any mistakes in native dress -- good reference materials can be hard to find.

It's amazing - a quite powerful picture. I love the angle, and the sheer power of the picture. Beautiful.

This is fantastic. Great job with conveying the power of the vision.

:-) Katherine J. Grantham replies: "Thanks much! This is one of my personal favorite pieces of art for that very reason, and the one most likely to be the subject of a painting should I take up acrylics again."

This reminds me of lyrics in Dave Crossland's song. "When the Buffalo Come Back" :

"And what have you learned, and what have you gained since you laid those iron tracks?
O, you best be running from the thunder when the buffalo come back."

Wow! What a magical yet menacing thunder cloud. Lovely concept too, very spiritual.

*scratches head and thinks*...Indian,bonzai tree,Indian,bonzai tree...together?

:-) Katherine J. Grantham replies: "Kind of big for a bonsai, isn't it? It's supposed to be an old, dwarfed, gnarled cedar tree clinging to life and the cliff, rather like the Witch Tree of Lake Superior."

And he shall thunder in the sky

:-) Katherine J. Grantham replies: "Hmm. Have you been reading Elizabeth Peters? (Working my way through the lot of Peabody books...again.)"
