My attempt at depicting the infamous statue from Lovecraft's classic 'Call of Cthulhu,' after reading a bunch of Mythos stuff for the umpteenth time. Started as a pencil sketch for doing a real statue in Sculpy. We'll see whether I get around to that.

Pencil, colorized in Photoshop. I should have stuck more mystic sigils on the pedestal -- it looks like a circus stand for big cats. Sit, Cthulhu! Sit!

29 Mar 2004	Itay yam	Loading... That's a lovely picture, great figurine. I always wondered, what is Cthulhu exactly? Katherine J. Grantham replies: "What is Cthulhu? H.P. Lovecraft wrote a series of macrabre horror stories collectively called "The Cthulhu Mythos" about godlike (or demonlike) beings from the stars who came to Earth aeons ago, and who wait for the right time to reassert their dominion over the world. This is usually accompanied by outbreaks of insanity, cult activity and other nastiness. Not exactly comfortable reading, but interesting! Anyway, Cthulhu is one of the chief of these beings."
